I finished a large chunk of the work that has been weighing on me, and I feel great! Tomorrow Boyfriend and I go to Charleston for three days, and though we are going for an academic conference, I'm thinking about it like a romantic mini-getaway.
Best Friend emailed me this morning and told me that her instructor at Barry's Bootcamp said a minute of holding a plank is equal to 100 sit-ups. I said I can't believe it, but she assured me that he said a whole bunch of doctor's agree that 1 minute of a plank = 100 crunches. WOO HOO. No wonder my heart is racing after I hold one for more than 1:00. Today I did 1:35. I'm building my way up to 2:30 so I'm extending the plank-a-day challenge through February.
January was really the worst month in terms of events and work pile up. I'm looking forward to returning from SC and making working out/eating right as much of a priority as teaching/research/writing. Today I did my nails, two face masks and plucked my eyebrows. I've also got all the laundry in and I'm banging through the last of my 'to-dos.' All this for clean slate February!
I won't be posting while we are away - I'll be networking during the day and snuggling with my honey at night. I hope you guys have an awesome weekend!

That's amazing about the plank-to-sit-up-value - based on how sore my abs are, I believe it!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time away!
We are on our way to having "planks" for stomachs!
DeleteGood job, Julia! Time to celebrate by taking time to reward yourself!
ReplyDeleteThank you for always being my relaxation advocate. I know you know what day-to-day grad student life is like, so when you approve of my breaks, I feel better! : )
DeleteI'm not surprised re the plank vs sit-up ratio. Plus so many people do dodgy sit-ups! Glad you're enjoying the challenge and doing well.
ReplyDeleteAnd I know that feeling of getting a piece of work done - esp if it's been playing on your mind!
Have a great trip!
Thanks, Deb! It it has been really wonderful for my mind to accomplish so much in January and then start February with a little break. I feel like I an do anything!
DeleteLooking forward to catching up on my blog reading once I've answered all my backlogged emails : )
Charleston is the perfect place to rejuvenate, reset, and rock the academic world. Have a blast!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mama! The conference went well - Eric Foner gave an awesome, easily understandable but brilliant talk. I aspire to be like him! My paper went well - at least one person was really into my research, so that's a plus. Will tell you more when we talk this week : )
