February 12

A week ago I turned a corner.  I made a decision to lose weight.  I am going down that road.

At one point last week I was down 3 lbs (!) but then I got my period, so now I'm back up a little.  Anyway, in my first week I lost 1.8 lbs.  My goal is to lose 2 lbs a week for a first weight loss goal of 10 lbs, so I have to kick it up a little bit this week.  Most days I went over my calorie limit by a little, but on Friday I had a huge carb filled meal and dessert that turned into sh*tty eating on Saturday too.  I'm going to try and avoid that this week.  I met my exercise goals and was at the gym four times, plus Boyfriend and I went on a bike ride on Sunday.

This week is very busy because our local film festival is happening and I'm a part of it.  I'm not going to set any exercise goals this week.  I have some trips to the gym scheduled, but I don't want to feel guilty if I don't make it.  I'm keeping to my plank a day (this week I'm alternating between 1:20 and 1:30) and will focus on staying near my calorie limit.

Two things I've incorporated into my diet that aren't so great but are helping me to not eat other types of foods (like chips and desserts) are diet ginger ale and cheesy vegetables
I say the DGA isn't good for me because of the artificial sweeteners in it, and I'm sure there are lots of chemicals in the processed cheese of the cheesy veg.  But because I can satisfy a sweet craving with the DGA and I can avoid potato chips because of the cheesy veg, I'm considering these vices the lesser of many evils.  I hope to eat only whole and natural foods down the line, and I do so for the most part, but right now what is killing is the extra fat on my body.

On a different note - shout out to Shelley!  I won a book giveaway on her blog.  Yesterday Weight Loss for People Who Feel too Much by Colette baron-Reid showed up on my doorstep.  I'm excited to see what the book says.  Thank you for hosting the giveaway, Shelley!

  1. Glad the book finally made it!

When I first started my diet, I did what you are doing - choosing the lesser of two evils. I drank diet coke, ate Yoplait fruit-flavored yogurt, Kashi cereal...not perfect, but all better than what I was eating. Eventually I worked my way to the point where I haven't had a diet coke in years, and plain greek yogurt is my first choice for part of my breakfast. It took time to get there, but I made it...and I know you will too!

    1. The book looks really cool, Shelley. You know I'll write about it! And thanks for making me feel less terrible about the not perfect foods. Baby steps!

  2. Congrats on the win AND the weight loss. I love that you aren't sounding really positive and getting your gym workouts in despite your busy-ness and odd working hours.

    Well done!
